What should I do first?
Read The Information Provided - Decorating fluorescent lights is quite simple, but we are providing two main products with which to do it,
therefore you must make sure you understand what to order, and how to get the correct size for your light.
What do I need to know about my light fixture?
What is a Lens? - The lens is the clear piece of plastic, acrylic, or styrene that diffuses the light. These are sometimes referred to as Light
Covers. Most are clear material with a prismatic diffusion of some type. Others are smooth white.
2x4 Doesn't mean 2x4 - All of these fixtures are slightly different in size based on manufacturer, or installation. We make quite an effort to help you with
these size variations, and eliminate the need for trimming the panels.
What decorative lighting options do you sell?
There are two product types you may purchase printed with our artwork. Each has its advantages.
1) Lightshade Panels™ - These are prints directly applied to a premium quality white Acrylic lens. They are designed as a decorative lens replacement
for applications of a more permanent nature.
2) Lightshade Films™ - These are made of a flexible print medium that simply slides into an existing fixture above the lens.
These install with very minimal effort, and can easily be moved or replaced. This decorative solution eliminates the requirement of replacing the lenses in your
fixture.
When would I use Lightshade Films™?
A big advantage of the Lightshade Films™ is ease of installation and sizing. The material is quite easy to trim with scissors, and sizing is not as
critical because they sit on top of the existing lens. If your existing lens is of good quality, or you are in a facility that won't allow a permanent change to the lighting (i.e.
dorm rooms) , these are an excellent lighting upgrade option.
When would I use Lightshade Panels™?
Lightshade Panels™ show a slightly higher level of artwork detail at a wider viewing angle because the design is printed directly on the Acrylic
sheet. If you have the ability to replace your existing panels with a somewhat more permanent decorative solution, or need to specify a lighting theme for new
construction or a rennovation effort, these are likely your best option.
What about Sizing?
We provide two 'standard' sizes for each product type A-Size, B-Size, or a custom size for each of the three main product size groups
(2x4, 2x2, 1x4). Sizes are selectable at the time the products are added to the shopping cart. For complete details please see Sizing and
Compatibility.
What if I don't have a 'Standard Size' light fixture?
If the A-Size, or B-Size size are not suitable, you will need to order a custom size. This is also discussed in Sizing and
Compatibility. There are aspect ratio limitations on each type of art that must be considered.
For special requirements and custom designs, one or more units of Graphic Design Service will be quoted to the customer, and must be added to the
shopping cart when placing the order. This Graphic Design Service is listed under the Special Services category of the navigation tree in the right column of
the web pages.
Are they Flexible?
Lightshade Panels™, are slightly less flexible than the inexpensive sheets found in the home improvement stores because they are slightly thicker
and more durable. It may be desireable to order them a bit smaller than the existing panel if the existing fit is too tight.
What do I need to Install them?
For Lightshade Films™, a step ladder, a tape measure, and perhaps a pair of scissors are all that is required. The procedure is actually easier than
changing a bulb in the fluorescent fixture.
To install a Lightshade Panel™, a screw driver or other small instrument may be required to open the door frame so that the lens can be exchanged.
Are all fluorescent fixtures compatible with Lightshade Films™?
See Sizing and Compatibility for details. There are light fixtures that are not suitable for use with Lightshade Films™
.
Which side should be facing down with Lightshade Panels™?
Lightshade Panels™ are normally installed with the printed side down facing the room. This produces the clearest image
to the viewer.
Do they cut down on the light?
They work much the same way as a conventional lamp shade. The light level is reduced slightly. At the same time the quality of the light is changed to
produce a more comfortable environment. There is a wide range of light diffusion produced by our artwork. Choose a design that meets your needs in this area.
Can you do custom or corporate designs?
Yes, we would be happy to work with you on a custom, or corporate design. Simply contact us by phone or email to discuss the requirements.
